About Us

History

Ryness Lighting and Electrical was founded as a single store in Goodge St, London in 1961. Over the following 25 years the business expanded from a single specialist shop into a generalist electrical supplies company. Today Ryness is an electrical supplies and lighting expert with an unparalleled network of 14 shops in central London, providing a complete range of electrical supplies and lighting solutions for the home and trade. We have a significant wholesale arm trading as Wholesale Lighting & Electrical, based in Islington, with Trade Counter and Telesales operations supplying the trade and numerous end users across London. The company was acquired by Andrew Lindsay and James Shortridge in 2006 with the backing of EPIC Private Equity.

Strategy

We are the sole specialist retailer of light bulbs (with over 600 types in stock and a promise to find any type that our customers want!) and lighting in London, and aspire to strengthen our position in this niche both through our Ryness shops and our Wholesale business. We will continue to open stores wherever we see a suitable location and opportunity to increase our geographical presence. We are committed to customer satisfaction and believe that the knowledge and experience of our staff (whose average period of service is in excess of 10 years) ensures that our customers receive the highest quality advice and service.
